Autism advocacy
Free Independent advocacy for adults with Autism Spectrum Conditions (ASC)
This service provides one to one advocacy from a professional advocate. They are employed by Advocacy Matters Wales to support adults with ASC to address their problems and achieve their goals.
What can I expect from my advocate?
Your advocate will discuss your issue with you (in private),
before any course of action is agreed upon.
An Advocate can support you to …
- find the information that you need.
- consider your options and make your own choice.
- speak up for what you want.
- be aware of and understand your rights.
An Advocate will not…..
- take someone else’s side
- make a choice for you
- work in your ‘best interest’ (for example; an advocate will not tell you what to do, just because they or somebody else thinks it is the ‘best thing’ for you. They are there to help you identify your choices. They will then support you to understand the probable consequences of each choice. The final decision is always yours.)
An Advocate can not…..
- work with you all the time.
An advocate might not be able to help you solve everything, but they will try and help you as much as they can.
They will always do their best to make sure that you are listened to and respected.
