Advocacy for Parents with a Learning Disability
Advocacy Matters (Wales) provides a specialist advocacy service to work in partnership with parents whose children are the subject of child protection concerns.
Parents with learning disabilities have told us the child protection process is:
confusing scary hard to understand lonely
In this situation, our service users have told us that having an Independent Advocate can really make a difference.
If you are a parent in this situation, our advocates can help you to:
understand what is happening,
participate in meetings,
have your views heard,
make informed choices
be listened to and respected during the process.
An advocate will attend meetings and (if required) court hearings alongside you.
They will help to make sure that any information you are given is easy for you to understand.
